Scribble night

The Art Production Fund is a New York-based non-profit organization that solicits donations from private and corporate sponsors to mount public art projects in New York and beyond.  Faced with a diminished donor pool in the wake of the economic slowdown, the group's founders were searching for a project that would meet their monumental expectations and reputation, yet be more in keeping with the economic climate of the moment.  Colossal worked closely with APF and the artist Karl Haendel to secure a wall location and execute a 5,000 square foot 'translation' of an 8.5" x 11" drawing originally created in pencil.

Aside from the technical challenges of accurately transferring the subtle textured feeling of Mr. Haendel's pencil work, the project presented a serious real-world challenge as well.  The donated wall location - on Broadway one block north of Canal Street, the dead center of New York's popular SoHo shopping and gallery district - is a landmarked location. Colossal was able to secure the proper permits on short notice, allowing this installation from New York's Landmark's Preservation Commission in record time.
